can someone tell me should a shim be fitted on the end of the layshaft before tapping through the bearing when refitting.thanks

No, only the o ring fitted to layshaft.

REMEMBER TO BE GENTLE WHEN TIPPY TAPPING IT THRU............ DRAW IT THRU THE REMAINING 3-5mm
