S2 Build - finished - except one bit

Postby gaz_powell » Sat May 31, 2014 10:25 pm

before the crash I started a thread on my S2 bitsa build - here are a few photos and a quick history up to date

1. dry build in progress
Image

2. frame and parts powder coated
Image

Image

3.at the painters (standard and smiths converted headsets)
Image

4.headset top
Image

5. bit more paintwork - frame powder coated then loop painted
Image

6. getting there
Image

7. panel - "badges" are vinyl lacquered in - done in black
Image

8. front end
Image

9. legshields - again badges done in vinyl - LI 200
Image

photos are not very good and don't do the paint justice - BMW Marrakesh metallic pearlescent brown

Its a real bitsa - theres indian, Italian, Spanish + some Japanese (piston and rod) - done just for me !

should be near enough finished tomorrow - all been well

will post a few more

theres some pinstriping and sign writing to be done when its finished

I do love that bronze colour, Gaz. I've often considered a similar colour as it's very similar to a "Wildcat Executive" dealer special that I liked from the late '70s/ early '80s.

IMO, don't go OTT with the pinstriping etc as it is such a great colour. Sometimes less is more ;-)

Hi Paul

Not 100 % definite on the pin striping yet - will wait until its all finished first - if I do go with it - it will just be some choice lines to define the lines in the panel work none of that fancy detailed design stuff.

Cheers

Spot on Gary, and I think the black vinyl badges look fantastic.

When Rob Miller was building his grey SX200 I said he should have the badges coated in black and he was going to do it, but bottled at the las minute.

those panel clips - i wish i had time to make more !!!

struggling to find time to finish the bike, keep the others on the road and socialise ...........

cant understand why no one who has facility doesnt make them - the likes of Scootopia, TSR, SR they would defo sell well

They should really be done in sprung but i just bent a set - not sure how they will cope

Hi Angelo good to meet you to.

motor is steel lined TS1 to 66mm with yam piston, rd400 rodded SIL crank.
all engine parts are genuine SIL, ignition and flywheel modified SIL
casing is a SIL 150 converted at oiltek.
gonna use a 30mm carb
hopefully a good all rounder

Few pics of the barrel before motor went together

Liner and head done by Fahron Engineering

66mm dia

Used an RD 400 rod in SIL webs and had to take 1.5mm off bottom of barrel to get good squish - thanks to DSC Scotty

If i did it again i would use the 116mm long rods that are available to save doing the above.
