When to sell?

Postby 911hillclimber » Sun Nov 08, 2015 5:18 pm

The weather is grim now after a wonderful Indian-summer and few will be riding out soon.

I am still awaiting the NVA/Registration for my TV3 (protracted due to my mistakes in submission), but I expect to have this all done by the end of November.

Is the opinion that Dec is a good time to sell or best wait for the sun in April?

I don't have to rush to sell the Tv3 though it is in the way a bit of my new project!

Any thoughts on selling off-season?

No harm in advertising now and you don't have to sell if nobody wants to pay your bottom line price. Personally I don't think there's a good or a bad time.
Guide price so I can barter with you !

Might be someone there with the money now.....might not........may as well give it a go and see what interest you get.

Very nice
If it's priced to someone's pocket it will sell at any time

I don't understand business but I'm fascinated by logic. As I see it the conundrum is this; are you likely to get back what you've spent? If not - I'm not sure why you're asking this forum about your loss as only you know what you'll tolerate. And there's a danger you'll overlook the contribution you've made to adding another classic to the pool (worth lots). If you will make a profit and want to maximise your investment - you're probably asking the wrong set of people for advice. Although it could just be me. :(

The way things seem to be going the longer you wait the more money you'll get for it. Put it on this forum and you may get what "we think it's worth". If you put it on e-bay or similar; it seems that you can put whatever price you want and someone will pay it.

You know what you want for it, so there's no harm in trying now, someone may want it for christmas.

Thank you all for the inputs.

When the registration finally comes through and the TV has a number plate on it I'll put it everywhere know that is free.

Just been stung by paypal/ebay fees on an expensive guitar sale, should have read the small print!

I know what the TV owes me.
I want to sell it to move on; I have the Honda CB 175 already in bits getting ready for a repeat performance this winter, engine, frame, body, loom, lights etc

The parts bill was huge for the scooter, the Honda will be no different, so the TV will pay for the Honda. Or at least that is the intent. ;)

I will trawl as much as I can to find a going price, but think it is £5000.

Just as an aside, we are VERY spoilt for parts availability (even though many parts are poor quality) compared to the Honda 'world'. Just try finding a rear mudguard that can be re-chromed....

Could you tell me what you did with regard to registering? I'm just going to do it next week and don't want to make the same mistake.

Thanks

I did 2 things wrong.
1
I did not get a NOVA for the TV which a dealer imported with a million other scooters in 1999. I bought it from him out of the yard out back. NOVAs didn't exist then.
I assumed he had done all the import stuff, not so.

I have a NOVA in for processing now, 10 days in and waiting.

2
I sent all the V55 registration forms/££ into DVLA how sent the lot back 2 weeks later with 2 issues:

No NOVA....
No MoT cert. I thought I had included it, had a copy of it and found it in my printer used to make the copy...

Thus, once I have the NOVA I can send that and the MoT to DVLA in the pre-addressed envelope they provided with the agents name on it.

No other comments were made, so I hope I should get the whole lot sorted before the end of November.

Two things I'm unsure about, do you send copies of your driving licence or the real thing. Also the cheque for £55 who do you make it payable to? Just the DVLA?

Yes, copy of your License for proof of who and where you are.
I have a paper License so easy to copy and attach.

The £55 is payable to "DVLA". It does say so, but you need to look hard!

Most government forms are badly designed for clarity imho.

I think some specialist vehicles are starting to soften a bit, Porsches for example and unsold Ferrari's, but I hope not TV Lambrettas!

I did this Scooter because I had it, it was in reasonable shape, was Italian and I took early retirement.

Restoring a Lambretta is dead easy compared to a Honda cb175!

The raw TV3 in 1999 cost me as much as the UK Honda a few weeks ago.

Still waiting for the NOVA, 2 weeks tomorrow since I posted it off. :(

I'd always wait until the shoots of spring start to push through (around Whitby Rally time)

You'll attract the lads who have suddenly realised they want to get another scooter and relive their youthful hi-jinks

They also wont have a clue about how much its worth - just a burning urge and a pocket full of dosh

Don't try and sell it on here - they are all tight as Yorkshiremen and want stuff for nowt :D

In fact thinking about it - take it to Whitby and stick a for sale sign on it.

Thanks for the advise.

I have been told to take it to London and sell for 10k, and this man has seen it!

It is worth what someone wants to pay and I'm open minded, but it won't go for a bargain "I've stolen it" price.
Time will tell, but I suspect it will be in the spring of '16 when it goes. ;)
