Attach the positive clip of a battery charger through a 10 amp fuse in a fuse holder (about £1.50) at Halfords or The Range. Connect the negative wire of the battery charger to a good earth.
This is your live feed to the headset without the engine running.

Put the black lead of your new multimeter to a good earth and then measure on a range close to about 20 volts Volts AC and satisfy yourself with regard to the voltage at the back end of the scooter on your connected positive lead.
Now look for this voltage at the headlamp connector and work back.
Make sure the headlamp bulb connector assembly has a good earth.
I wish I was there because I could do this for you in no time.

Brilliant advice but using a battery charger as a power source, you will need to set the meter to DC volts not AC ;)

Also, I would not recommend the red crimp bullet terminals as they are too small and will work loose and cause problems in the future. Send a PM Knowledge on here, he sells kits and loose connectors which are the correct size.

Also, if you want to check that a connector is performing as it should, put one lead of the meter (set to volts) immediately before and after the connection. If all is well the reading will be zero but if there is any reading at all then you have resistance and therefore volts drop due tyo a poor connection,

If you only have two wires at the junction box then I don't think you have a standard loom.

I may be half wrong about the charger output because the DC voltage is rectified AC. Anyway try either lol !
I found the red bullets to be fine but appreciate that where age has worn down terminal blocks then they might not be tight but then again once the tension has been lost on old terminal blocks, most connectors struggle to make an excellent contact.
With electrical connections don't settle for "that'll do" because invariably you'll end up chasing more than one fault. Best connection you can make is what is needed at every point.

Be careful when your checking the wires when you have a live feed to the headset, if you happen to touch the green wires in the headlight junction box with a live 12v DC feed you can blow the two diodes in the electronic pickup that's fitted to the stator instantly.

Update fitted it all back together last night
Thought I'd give it a run today just to make sure of lights
When I started the bike everything worked even the pilot light for the first time.
Then everything started to flicker and then nothing not even brake light or hooter.
Eventually everything started to work as it should but still not 100 %
