Clutch/starting probs

Postby Alex_amd2001 » Tue Nov 17, 2015 11:32 pm

Hi Everybody,

Thought I'd finished my rebuild/project, MOT done and scoot running well. However today after starting on the second kick it spluttered to a stop after a few minutes and won't start again. Fuel flow and spark fine. Of more concern when I tried to bump start it, the clutch didn't seem to engage at all i.e. Couldn't roll forward in gear with the clutch pulled in all the way, also the kickstart still engages with the clutch pulled in. So near yet so far away :( Any thoughts? Cheers Alex.

Cable seems fine thank you. The only thing I've done is replaces the fuel with a fully synthetic mix. Was starting absolutely fine prior to doing that. Can't see why that should cause an issues.

Have you checked the normal things , Plug (even though its sparking) Wires all intact Junction box/CDI , HT Cap , CDI , Petrol Flow/Fuel Tap (Is Plug Wet) Kill Switch /Ignition earthing out

The Clutch may need adjusting sounds like it may be dragging, or it may be inside ?

Remove the panel on the kickstart side, pull the clutch lever fully in on the handlebars and see if the lever on top of the engine case moves far enough to compress the clutch,if not the cable has either slipped or broken, replace or re-adjust the cable and try again.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Going to start with a carb strip and clean. Think the clutch might just be a cable adjustment. Quick question, should the bike be as easy to push in gear with clutch pulled as it is in neutral? Thanks again.
