stainless steel fuel tank

Postby grandpa » Wed Nov 18, 2015 8:00 pm

Hi Chaps,
Had reason to inspect inside of my fuel tank that is rust coloured but Jetex carb filter is clean .(Indian GP150) Has anyone any experience of ScootRS standard stainless tanks that retail at a reasonable £45
Thanks,
Grandpa

Not used that one but have a SS 11lts one, you will need to clean it well inside as they often get a lot of debris inside from the polishing compounds used. I was advised to use Caustic soda it got very hot and developed a scum on the top, be careful as its nasty stuff. I have very clean drains now as well.

I know of at least 2 guys locally that have had scootrs stainless tanks and they both split on the seam which is why i've recommended stainless scooter product tanks to my mate that needs a bigger tank, unfortunately stainless scooter products have great tanks but crap service so my mates still got a few hundred quid burning a hole in his pocket as they don't pick up thier phone.

I`ve fitted two SSC stainless 12litres ones and they have been fine - although a little bit fiddly to fit

My 11lt one was from par grey off eBay advertised as pressure tested. Been spot on for 3 years and cost 70 quid at the time. I have an Italian mild steel standard one that leaks like hell from the welded seam. As I always say you can pay three times the price but they often come from the same workshop. It's hit and miss but will they sort it out if you have a problem

Hi Chaps,
Thank you for your very useful replies. I was hoping someone would say the tanks from Vietnam were great and that no duty or VAT was paid. :) I will wait and pay a bit more later and spend time making sure its clean inside.I am going to check the flow rate of a fuel filter and fit that as an interim measure
Thanks again
