Rear Badge Holder - repair? (Photo)

Anyone know if the threaded studs are cast into the alloy, or can they be removed and replaced - I've sheared one - see photo? If they can't be removed maybe a bit of threaded stud could be welded to the existing sheared stud? Any other suggestions for a repair? Also, what size are studs, I've lost the nut and they don't seem to be a size I have?? Thanks.

I need to do similar some time too. However, looking at that makes me wonder if you could not fit an extended nut to what's left and then fit another short length of studding to that. This wouldn't be a great repair but might be a very functional fix.

As its behind the badge couldn't you just drill it out and tap put a countersunk screw through?

Thanks for the suggestion Adam, that sounds like it could work. Any idea what the stud/nut size is?

Cheers Gaz, I like the 2nd ones, I think a repair with one of those would look pretty neat - just need to work out the what "M" size the stud is.

I'm fairly certain that they are M6 (x 1.0 pitch). It's too late to check in my garage!

The suggestion (Adam's) of a long nut would work as the studs fit through massive holes in the frame. If the fasteners are M6, Toolstation sell ten for less than a quid. You might have to shorten them a bit though.

Right I had a look on tool station and I spotted the joiners, thanks. However, I thought I would return to the nut idea because the depth of the nut is about the maximum you can go to otherwise the badge clamp will hit the joiner and be prevented from tightening up against the frame. Even with my earlier effort this was a problem so I cut off a couple of more threads so the nut was hard against the grill. I then threaded the bolt in and lopped a bit off the length so it matched the other side. I then wound a nut down to the bottom of the good stud so it looked the same as the repaired side. I tried it on the scooter and it tightens up perfectly, but only just so I don't think a longer joiner could be used. Anyhow it will do for me!

Nicely executed but the longer nut, with stud araldited in, would have given an even more secure fix.

Done a few of these but I have access to a lathe. Hold the boss at back in a three jaw, centre drill and drill and tap for M5 from the front then fit a stud. Not much help if you don't have a lathe I know but it's another option.
