Hi All
I have just fitted electronic ignition to my GP. I made a TDC tool the same as in sticky's book drilling the centre out an old spark plug. Screwed the tool in the plug hole, turned the flywheel clockwise until the piston touched the tool. Marked that point with tippex. Turned the engine anti clockwise, again until the piston touched the tool, and marked that point with tippex. Found the centre between the 2 marks. Put on my timing disc on to find 19 before tdc. Here is a picture. Your comments please.
Cheers

I was asking for cylinder, exhaust etc
if it is something highly tuned you can go to 18 or even 17 degrees.

Looks pretty good to me
But don't be surprised if there is a difference between static timing and the actual timing when it's strobed.
Sometimes the timing marks on the stator/flywheel can be a bit out.
Good luck

Hi hx paul,
The tippex mark to the left is 19 btdc, and the other in the middle is TDC, the other to the right is 20
