Hydraulic in board brake

Postby La chevre » Tue Jul 08, 2014 7:54 pm

Hi all
Have a problem with my in board hydraulic brake. I purchased this in mid 80,s from Dave Webster. The internal piston doesn't seem to reset on activation of the brake lever.Ive split the hub a number of times, clamped down the internal piston re mounted onto hub yet still It seems to rub on the disc. Are spare pistons available or replacement matching parts (the dust ,cover on mine is now split) as I prefer the inboard hydraulic look and would like to retain on my s3.
Thx La CHevre

Hello, you need to push the piston out using a punch via the banjo bolt. Clean the cylinder and piston. Then refit.
I'm using 2 of these dj hydraulics ,and neither have the dust seal anymore.
I believe the dust seals are from an old Renault 10. So if you live in France you may be able to obtain some.
I have an old seal, which is in bad shape which I may well try to get copied at a seal makers not to far from me.

Ok Great.Discussed with dealers and none of them were particularly interested so appreciate the comment.BTW did you have a similar experience hence the treatment you suggested.
Thx Paul .

I had a hydraulic inboard disc brake and it leaked out of the seal.I tried everywhere to get a replacement seal, but could't get one.In the end I got an "O" ring the same size and fitted that.It worked perfectly and I used it every day for 3 years.

a lot of conversions of that era (eg taffspeed, PM tuning)used a piston and seals from a MG Metro 4 pot caliper.. which are available from places like minispares and ebay..
