Serie 3 plan to weld middle and rear strut in right place

Postby Rhinomerc » Thu Dec 10, 2015 6:54 pm

Hi all

I am looking for plan of serie 3 frame in order to have quotes to weld a new middle (stand) strut and the left rear strut (side panel) at the right place.

I have found some info (picture) on google however the resolution is not good enough for me to figure out the numbers.

Can someone help?

Kind regards

what a lump I am, I've kept some drawings for years thinking one day someone would need a copy. first time they do and I find mine's exactly the same as yours - absolutely useless when zoomed in. obviously the same file :(

doh.

I have a proposal to restore a cutdown frame, for which I will need similar measurements.

I would prefer to take all the measurements from another frame, perhaps making a template from thin plywood. You could capture the position of the front, middle and rear struts on one bit of plywood on the LHS, and the RHS on another bit of ply.

Probably the best advice is to take the frame to dealer who owns a frame jig. The jig will align all the struts for you.

Hi

Good advises. Finding a JIG and an experienced lambretta dealer would be the best.

Unfortunately, there a no lambretta dealers here in Paris (yep i am in france).

So I could to build up my own simplified Jig... And find out those measures.

@knowledge: this is the picture I have, pretty but useless :(

most of the dims are available on the net . if it was me, a i had a frame with the loop attached, id get all the components loosely bolted together, ie struts and rear suppurts bolted to leggies and footboards, then get it proped into position and tack the bits to the tube ,and go from there .

What Carlos said ^
Sersiously by all means use the measurements above as a guide, but I work with my welder guy to literally build it up with the actual panel work I am using, bolting it together with the footboard and legshield outside runnerstrips and gaping it with the side panel buffers. Once you have it all aligned then tack it in a few places and weld from there.

Hi All

First, thanks a lot for the pics. I saw these ones but not in this resolution. Great!

And good advise for the prefitting and welding, thanks.

As i will do both the middle strut and the left rear one. I will have to find a way to keep this later from moving. I am thinking of some way to attach it to the rh side one. Any advise?

And for removing existing one, what would you recommend.

Cheers

On top of all this info there's a 5mm difference in the heights of the floor struts if memory serves me well

Yep you can see here the 5mm between bottom of the top of chassis and the top of the central strut.

Had to do something similar and bolted the leg shields on as other people have said then lined rear foot boards up using string and tacked everything into place ensuring correct gaps before welding
