I bought a box of various sizes from Maplin which includes the size for the gear linkage as well as PHBH needle clips and brake levers...should last me a lifetime 8-)

I got so fed up with that tiny circlip, I took the opportunity when rebuilding my engine to cut the small 'stud' off the arm, drilled and tapped it out, and fitted a 6mm stud. I drilled the tie rod to suit, put the tie rod on, a wavy washer, then a nyloc nut. Tighten the nut until a slight resistance to turn is felt on the tie rod. Job done - no more circlip !. To make it look a bit neater, I put a plastic cap over the nyloc nut.

Drill through on the line of the circlip groove and use an 'R' clip.

R clip is reusable, small split pins rarely are.

I did once post a photo of my assembly, which I'll go and try to find now.

Yep, the benefit of the R clip, over split pin, is that it is reusable.

Adam

PS - Found the photo so give me an email address and I'll send it over... as I'm too lazy to upload to a webhost and then post it on here

PPS - I've done a number of mine on a small pillar drill, simply centre punching it on the circlip groove, then running a small drill through to the other side.

You've got to admit that is ridiculously simple yet such an improvement. Next time !

Makes you wonder why Innocenti didn't do this in the first place.

Blimey, that's pricy! It's an easy mod to do yourself, even with limited tools. From memory I used a stainless engine casing stud.
