head cowling recommendations

Postby DaveTomo » Wed Dec 30, 2015 12:02 am

Need a new head cowling, the one I have doesn't fit (bear with me ) & I don't really want to cut it as its original to the scoot and has the extra - for want of a better word- baffle inside .So I'm looking at buying another any recommendations , regarding fit etc. I'm expecting to do a little cutting/fettling, its to go on a GT200 kit so need room for the reed and a stub mounted exhaust - the less fettling I have to do the better :D Seen these on the AF Rayspeed site any thoughts feedback appreciated , they look in the picture like they've already been designed to accommodate the reed valve and a stub mounted exhaust?

I bought one from AF and if was top quality and powder coated black but I painted it white. Avoid SIL, they're c**p and actually made for Lambro three wheelers and not Lambrettas.

I bought one of the AF ones for a repair job on a scooter and was amazed it fitted without the usual fettling so I got one for mine.

Agree AF ones are superb. I cut and fitted one for an RB recently and it was a great fit and the gauge is good so cutting easy.

Are they cut differently to accomodate a reed valve?

i bought an Af one when they were first advertised in scootering offering better cooling, and although it was a quality made bit of kit, nicely powder coated, the spark plug hole was about an half inch from where it should of been. If I hadn't needed it in an hurry it would of gone back but I reworked it. Just a warning, perhaps I got the Friday 5 o'clock one ;)

Thank you all chaps, appreciate the feedback. Have tried AF today but no reply ( about 4 times), don't know if they're closed or not till the New Year, anyway I'll persevere & again thank you all for your advice

I had to cut the one I got to accommodate the RB reed and exhaust.
No issues with plug hole
