I haven't but I know someone who put one in an out of the box bolt on 198 Muggello and he reckoned it made it a lot better to ride and possibly quicker all round.

Yeah. No problem just thought it might be just a good example being as its not tuned to the hilt and he runs a clubman and a 25mm carb on it. I suppose if you are thinking standard 200 then why not try it. Should help keep it in the useable rev range I suppose. Best wait for a grown up to come along who knows what they're talking about ;-)

hi all i run four cyclone in four different engine set ups
targa engine ts1 engine monza engine and a mugello engine

run different gearing on each engine from 18/47 to 20/46 and some with the taller 5th gear of 34t

i think you will find it will make your bike more easy to ride in town and better on the motorway and better on fuel

this is my opinion on cyclone five speed gear boxs

many thanks

Mr G from NYC runs one in a standard SX200 and had passed comment that it was a joy to ride. You might want to send him a PM.

Thanks all, I was interested at the prospect of a standard 200 or even 150 with clubman and cyclone as a reliable (I know... cyclone :? ) touring machine and what it/they may perform like?
Adam... I do seem to remember seeing those comments somewhere.

I've got a 'standard' Li 150 Special (18mm carb & standard barrel/piston, GP crank/electronic kit + Clubman).
She's been running with the Cyclone gearbox now for a couple of years+ & I've never had a problem with it yet. On the road she has shown a top speed (GPS) of 59.8 mph & has quite a pull uphill: the torque in this motor showed a clean pair of heels to friends when we hit a few steep sections on the way to the Euro Lambretta in Switzerland.

On the flat she can cruise all day at around 55 mph without feeling as if the engine is really straining or over revving at all. That's what I really want & in due course when a re-bore is required I'll just pop on a 22mm carb & take her out to 175cc.

I know these kits are expensive & not to everyone's taste, but my personnel experience has been a good one & the ride is very nice.

Thanks Nudger, makes a lot of sense to me, original reliability with the cyclone extending cruising speed slightly whilst not being under stress from a high hp kit. The 5 speed kits are expensive but so are cylinder kits and all that goes with them. I really like the sound of your setup.

Yes - original reliability with extending cruising speed & not being under stress from a kit was the plan.
In fact I've had more problems with electronic kits (three stator plates failing in 2 years!). I've now got a Casa Electronic kit on and she's even smoother with a lovely crisp throttle response.

Hi Adam,
2 x genuine SIL & 1 x from Rayspeed.
A twist in the crank was suspected but its fine - just unlucky I guess.

Ok, I didn't want to pre-judge by asking whether they were Indian stators or not but that is typical of them I'm afraid. Whilst comments like my last normally get a response of lots of people saying that Indian stators have served them well, I have far too much firsst-hand experience of replacing failed LT coils on these. Indeed, if it wasn't for the frequency of Indian stators failing, BGM would probably not have had the window of of opportunity that allowed them to do so well with their replacement/aftermarket stators.

The good news for anyone that is happy to do a bit of laminate modification and soldering is that Indian stators are excellent if you upgrade the LT coil to a decent Ducati/Italian/BGM LT coil.

Regards,

Adam
