Series 3. I am changing my Lynx SX200 headset for my brand new Italian one. Do I need any special tools for this exchange. Any tips would be nice, thanks.

Be careful. If it's a Lince it will probably have short forks and you won't be able to fit an SX headset. What you've probably got is a Special headset. There are differences. If that's the case what you want is an Italian Special headset.

Thanks for that, what do I need to measure to confirm either way. Problem is I have some negotiations going on with another member who wants my old headset. I do appreciate your input, thanks. Colin. I have just dug out the advert when I bought the new headset. it was advertised as ' SX/Special Headset ( remade ).

Sticky's book is the easiest way to tell the difference. It's the depth of the collar beneath the steering lock which is the key. Although, if it's Spanish it'll be the Special type for sure. Just clarify what this new one is. If it's a Special one that's fine. I'm not quite sure why you'd want to change an original Spanish one for a remade one that's just the same though? Original is probably better.

The threads are gone on mine and I got the new one at the right price with the rim. Will be out in the garage at day break, fingers crossed. Again thanks for reply.

Well your new one sounds like it ought to be right. So good luck with it.

Got out in the garage this morning. To speed things up I cut through the control cables ( as I have spare new ones ) . The headsets look similar to the naked eye, HOWEVER the forks are too short as I was advised, no amount of fettling will sort this out. This leaves me with a nice new complete headset as mentioned earlier in the thread. I now have no choice but to repair and paint the old Lynx headset. My problem is I offered the old one to a good member of this club, I will now have to tell him the bad news and apologise.
Anyway Italian Headsets do not fit a Lynx as the forks are about 16 mm too short.

Not the end of the world. Talk to Martin Girvin on FB. Or Fatbloke, as I think he's known here. He may well have one that you could buy.

Did contact him thanks, he reckons that a chrome ring model will fit these Spanish Scoots. Hope this helps someone in the future. Thanks for all replies.
