Gear cluster track issue

Postby Luke » Sat Jan 02, 2016 11:58 pm

I have a jet200 engine which has not been used for 20 years or more, and on stripping it down I noticed that the bottom/large cog on the gear cluster has at some point been slightly rubbing the casing! On further inspection I noticed that the gear cluster bearing track is wedged in at a slight angle which would explain the rubbing marks on the casing!

The track does not appear to be pitted or worn so I was thinking of heating the casing and trying to tap it square with a hammer and drift!

Has anyone experienced this before or have any thoughts/solutions for this issue?
Cheers
Luke

Is the shim in behind the cluster outer race?

If not you be better to have it out and replace it or just replace it in any case.

This has been discussed several times its a common fault, that's not always a fault.
The christmas tree will sit low and can rub the casing but with the back plate in the clutch basket when tight lifts the christmas tree up hard against the end plate clearing the case at the back. Basically back plate by itself and the cluster rubs, clutch basket in the cluster runs tight into the backplate bearing and the race at the back is for support and it clears the case.
