I'm not a big fan of Firegum,as it bakes hard and makes the box hard to remove or it cracks and blows out.A far better product is Granville hi-temp sealant in a pressurised can which I put a thin smear on the ex gasket as well.

Finished reassembling today, took it out and, wow... different bike! Feels smoother, nasty vibration gone, seems to pull OK. Only went up to 42/43ish briefly but it didn't seem to have that "that's it, I'm NOT going any quicker" feel to it.
Glanced in my mirror shortly after pulling out onto main road only to see my C2C riding companion quickly catching me up running in his new monster engine, stopped for a quick chat then home to put all the body work back on. What a nice day :D :D :D
I did notice when putting bodywork back on how many battle scars it has already after only 2 long distance rallies and a few local ride outs and pottering around solo. Ah well - built to be ridden and all that.
A few runs in the evenings this week to see how it fairs and hopefully Shipston is back on the agenda :D

Big thanks for the replies.
Nigel.
