elect problem

Postby kennystag » Mon Jan 18, 2016 12:21 pm

Hi All,
I have just fitted DC electronic ignition with wassel and battery. When I start the engine turn on the lights and rev the engine all is ok, side lights work as they should, but when I disconnect the battery turn on the side lights all ok, but when i rev it up the side lights go dull. This is only happens with the side lights. All is ok with both side lights and head lights on, just the side lights that go dull when the battery is disconnected and revving the engine . Any idea what going on.
Cheers

Hi Kenny,
Have sent you an email.
Cant understand why you are disconnecting the battery. Some on this forum have remarked that their Wassell needs a load to work properly. The side lights only will have a much less load than headlight and side lights.
There is an old engineering adage " If it works don't fix it"

Hi Clive ,
I disconnect the battery to check the output of the wassell with a meter, when I came upon this problem with the side lights.

Hi Kenny, Grandad is right but it's not just the Wassel, voltage regulators need a load such as a battery or headlight otherwise they dump most of the voltage to earth. I've seen this with an AC regulator too. When I said in my PM to check the voltages, it was meant to be with the battery connected with lights on and off. Sounds like all is well, you don't want to be riding on side lights anyway ;)
