Speedo Cable

Postby shane BBoys » Thu Mar 24, 2016 5:23 pm

I have a series 3 Jet 200 and have fitted a pepper pot front disk, I did not notice at 1st but the speedo connection is really low and my cable is tight and does not have a swoop, ( Make sense?) this has coursed the inner to pop out twice, I think its when I hit a bump or 1 of those pigging sleeping police men. Anyhow is there someone out there making longer speedo cables? Complete please. I know a picture paints and all that and I know I should have measured it before fitting it all back together but I d not have much space in my man cave with having to share it with my girls and did mot want them knocking any bits anywhere not being able to find them again.
Cheers Shane.

What a picture of domestic life you paint, Shane.

The simple answer to your question is probably NO, well not at an affordable price (people have made longer one-off cables for choppers, so there is a solution out there)

The tolerances of all Lambretta parts are intolerable; that is, they vary so much between manufacturers. This is usually a huge issue when building scooters from collected or purchased parts. However, this may work to your advantage in this instance.

OK, the current cable is too short, but it probably only 20 or 30mm too short. You will be amazed what a difference an extra inch makes (oh errr Matron). If you measure the existing outer and ring a few dealers, you might be able to persuade them to measure whatever cable they have in stock and then they can supply you with a longer version.

Remember, before you extract the whole speedo cable, pull out the inner cable and feed it up from the bottom. Only then, extract the outer cable only s you can measure it. Leaving the inner cable in place will aid the fitting of the new cable once you have sourced a longer replacement .

I hope this helps, but if all else fails, ditch the cable and buy a GPS or magnet-activated speedo.

I just found a new grey speedo cable in the workshop. It measures 1156mm from top to bottom, excluding the nut that tightens up to the speedo.

I hope this helps. If mine is longer than yours, you can have mine FOC, as I won't be using it.

Thanks for the reply. I will have a look in the am as I've just got back from my niece's 21 st and do not fancy stripping down after too many of Spain's finest lager.
Cheers Shane.

This 1 is a Mec-eur cable and the longest that Buzz had in. Fingers crossed Martins gift will do the job.
