Standard GT200

Want to know which carb to choose? Having problems setting up the jetting details on your scooter? Wheter you are using a standard or tuned carb, ask your question here.

Standard GT200

Standard GT200 engine,
standard carb is a delly 20mil & 38mm pipe

I don't want anything other than the standard engine performing to its best
what carb would be best suited? if I switch the pipe to a 42mm af clubman

stick with the std carb just up jet and modify your airbox and scoop to allow better air flow and if you've not used a TV200 box before to get to top speed you have to really go for it in 3rd before you change up and I use to do most town riding in 3rd

If you want standard performance then why are you changing to a Clubman? If you really must change then why not try one of the new Scootopia 22mm Del Orto copies. You will, as has been said, have to increase your air flow via the scoop.

Hi Rich

What I mean was, I don't want to be putting a kit on it but want to maximise the performance of the standard engine (if that makes sense)

Yes I understand now. The new22mm Scootopia copies are supposedly very good.

If the motor is running the factory TV 200 gearbox & barrel fitting a larger 22mm carb & clubman could make pulling the tall g/box ratio a chore.
My understanding was the larger carb & changes to the exhaust for the GP made for a revier motor hence g/box ratio change(5.2 as opposed to 4.4).

so based on this, would you suggest sticking with the 20mm carb and a 38mm pipe? or fitting a 42mm and up=jetting the carb?

Off the top of my head the GT had a 109 main jet. This is all my opinion but why change a factory spec TV 200. Any change's to carb & exhaust will have a detrimental affect on the performance.
Start putting bigger carb/exhaust set up on & you might as well put a different gearbox in to take the final ratio up.
All the standard carb specs are available on this site in table form(I think)

I can see your objective was to ask opinions concerning optimising what you already have.

Personally, I see no reason why the substitution of carburetion for the superior Dell’Orto SH2/22 & later/enhanced filter box would suddenly change the characteristics of your current set up & make the engine require more revs. In fact, allied to a proper, well made Clubman type exhaust, set up by somebody that knows what they are doing, the result should be a pleasure to ride.

It appears to me that you are not intent on changing the porting in any way & merely seeking to gain some more torque to increase the flexibility of what you have.

A more efficient exhaust does not necessarily mean that the revs are increased, so you have to choose wisely.

Unfortunately, there are Clubman exhausts & there are Clubman exhausts!

Search on this Forum & there’s every chance that certain UK based manufacturers will be recommended. My own opinion is that you won’t go far wrong with an exhaust from Ralph Saxelby &, by all accounts, Ron Moss. They both have racing pedigrees.

After the replies on here, a number of pm's, a mate asking elsewhere and a few discussions with the GT owners club
The best option for a completely standard engine is to stick with the carb and pipe supplied with the machine.

I have recently fitted a 22mm dellorto and AF big bore carb to my GT 200 and it has transformed it, pulls the gearing easier. if that helps with your decision, if you want I could let you know the jetting used
