Rev's in top?

Postby Lammer205 » Sun Apr 17, 2016 4:45 pm

Ts1 running a Bgm clubby and 35mikuni , li150 box at 4.6, anyone tell me what they think this should rev out to in top gear flat road, scoot dying a death from 3rd to 4th catch it at the right revs and it flies along but mostly dying a death in 4th, driveability is poor was hoping for better. :? 4.6 is quite tall gearing, you might be better to drop it to 4.8.

What sprockets you got on?

Yep, 46/16 on an Italian S3 Li150 box will make all the difference.

That would be the easier option changing the front sprocket but that will give me a 4.9 ratio , you think that will be ok with the bgm? thanks for the input lads. Lammer205

I run a gearing set up of 20x47 sprocket combo & indian gp 200 giving me a top ratio of 4.70 on both my ts1 225 engines, coupled with bgm clubman & 30mm dellorto they seem to pull fine uphill & against the wind so definitely worth a try ;)

Hi ,

on my setup above i now have two options one is change to 16 front sprocket which will give me 4.9, or i can go 47/17 and get 4.7 will 4.7 be enough of a difference from 4.6 to pull top gear? so whats the best for me any help would be great. Lammer205

My choice would be 4.9 & be prepared to be under-geared. How often does anybody run flat out?

Then, if you have to up-gear, you know somewhere in-between is going to suit.

Think of it as the ‘Scientific Approach’

I run 46x16 on Li 150 box 186 muello and bgm clubman and it's a really nice ride.

Oh dear, along with my above problem, i had been clearing up my shed and sorting out stuff etc i was bagging up gearboxes with the clusters , among these boxes i had another li 150 box and an af close ratio, so the counting of gear teeth starts, alls going well until i end up with two third gears with 37 teeth so thats not right ,so where is the 36 teeth third gear from my af close ratio? I'll tell ya where, it's in my ts mixed up among the Li150 box . So the close ratio 36 has been retrieved and the proper 37 installed, i was gonna say bugger all about this cockup but really it was an easy mistake to make when your panicking to make a rally , any ways do ya think my ts with the proper gears installed would have pulled the 4.6 or will i still go for the advised 4.9? Thanks to all for the advice above

You've still got the same 4th, it's not likely to get any better with a different 3rd.

You'd still be better to drop the final ratio.

the jump between 3rd and 4th can make a big diffrence, the ideal situation is when you put it into 4th gear your already in your powerband and your scoot will easy accelerate in top gear, the amount of revs that your exhaust will allow will also have an impact, if your flat out in 3rd then it dies in 4th as your not in your powerband, the jump was too big or too low gearing, the tune of the engine can have an impact and the size of the rider, i had a ts1 a long time ago, and i had the barrel shortened by .5mm and used an mb manifold and a reed spacer, set the squish at 1.2mm and it was a dream to ride, very torquey, powerful as well. i use an af close ratio box which i think are spot on.
