My 62 supertune TV

Postby Gtwildcat » Fri Apr 29, 2016 9:28 pm

Been on the road for a few years now, 1962 TV175 with a Stuart Owen built TV200 engine. Old School Stage 5 innocenti cast 200 barrel, 30mil dellorto running through ram air filter, AF 48mm clubman. Set up on Readspeed dyno.

16bhp and 16ft lb torque on the dyno after the filter was put on, it knocked 3bhp off putting it on but it will last longer I suppose! Not bad for a cast iron 200cc. Stuart Owen obviously has the knowledge with the cast tunes!

Great to see it still on the road in it's original post restoration guise. Still a great looker :-)

Thanks mate 8-)

It did have a mk1 Amal on it when I first got it on the road but it was such a pain on that carb, could never get it right and the quality of those remade Amals is very poor. It looked great and original etc but wasn't very usable.

That’s a lovely machine & more contemporary to the 60’s/70’s than most people would imagine.

I say that because, if ever I get my own GT back on the road, it too will have SX200 panels on as they are my favourites. They must have been everybody else’s preferred choice ‘back in the day’ too, certainly in Northants, because that’s what most owners aspired to do. Undoubtedly, some were ‘acquired’ by way of ‘borrowing’ off some poor old boy’s daily ride to work, so panel locks are another legacy from those times…..

I have an original Amal Mk 1 (with choke) & a couple of the dealer manifolds & never really had any issues with set-up. That said, I will probably run a VHB 30!

I wanted to go for that 60s/70s look, people back in the day would have got rid of the boring Li style panels and changed for newer more stylish panels, and I love SX200 panels. Stuart Owen gave me a lot of advice to be fair, stick on numbers not painted, homemade alloy brake scoop, the 200 ground off the side panel badges, coat hanger reverse pull cable holder , no splash plate, no disc Windows etc etc.
As for the set up on the carb, I think an original would have been better but the remade Amals seem to be made out of cheese and wear like made and I also had 1 slightly warp! It looked great on the old taffspeed manifold but I'd spent that much money I just went down the dellorto route.
I do fancy an MB clubman for it as I've got 1 on my GT225 and its years ahead of the AF pipe.

The seat is a Dante fastback that Rimini Lambretta sell.

It's actually a lot more comfortable than it looks.

I have to agree with Warkton Tornado, love that the panels are not correct to the scooter. My first scootering experience was from 1969-1972 and the SX panels were the ones to have or GT style as a 2nd choice. My TV175 gained a pair of Chrome GT panels purchased not stolen which were going cheap because the previous owner had cut a hole for an Amal. That suited me as I was running one too.

When you say Mk1 Amal, do you mean the concentric? with a flange mount? They were popular back then but as Warton mentioned, the Delortto VBH was considered a superior carb and had down draught manifold. Fitted with a short ram pipe, the induction roar was amazing. I also have one which will get fitted to some sort of 'hooligan' scooter at some point. Re the disc brake windows, Stuart may well be right from a racing perspective but I suspect they went missing due to being hard to get back in after re-painting....attention to detail didn't seem so important when we were 16 and broke ;)
