I have a series 2 and the front hub has some play where the large pin that must fit into a slot in the hub
is there a way of fixing this?
Are back plates interchangeable? or is it better to get a whole new complete hub
cheers

The hub's are like that. If it bothers you you can wrap the pin in PVC electrician tape to make it tight.
More importantly is to make sure your back plate is not a series 1 type, (unlikely), the cast alloy support for the slot must be as wide as the slot to strengthen it all. S1's were only half the width and the slot could snap apart when braking.

Hi Paul

As Pete says you can put a few rounds of insulating tape around the peg on the link to make it a tighter fit in to the hub plate. I had one of the early back plates on a 1963 Spanish S2 so it is always worth a check. (You can get replacements for £10-15)

Just tighten the inner nuts up tight, then the backplate won't move backward and forwards.

A friend of mine used a bit of copper pipe on the peg (the type you use in your bathroom/kitchen)Stopped it from moving backwards and forwards.

Mine is the same so I just placed a piece of rubber round it . That got rid of the movement.
