I would appreciate your comments / experiences regarding an issue I appear to have !

I recent purchased a project in boxes for a british registered scoot - It came with a registration number but unfortunately the previous owner could not find the log book .
The bike was last on the road approx 10 years ago
I called the DVLA to check that there was nothing dodgy and they confirmed that all was good and new V5 would not be a problem
I applied for a replacement V5 including frame/ engine numbers ( which are only a few numbers apart )
The DVLA wrote me asking for a photo / rubbing of the frame number as there appeared to be a slight anomaly
I called them and they stated that the frame number was different but that the engine number was correct and they did not suspect foul play
I sent photos and frame rubbings for both engine and frame
I am now waiting for further comment from the DVLA before knowing how to proceed

In short ,it appears to have been a cock up when first registered or change of frame many years ago ( although the engine and frame numbers are very close ) but the dreaded "Q" plate has been mentioned !

Anyone else had a similar situation ?

It isn't an Li by any chance ? I had a devil of a job trying to register my Li last year,it seems that there computer wont recognise the prefix Li when written in a vin number,it keeps coming back as L1.And as we all know if the DVLA computer says so,then it must be right.

After reading a post on here about series 1 frame numbers I got the v5 out and found bugger that's not a series 1 frame number at all. It was a series 3 number. Now like the wife the old girl may have put on a few pounds but no was she ever slim.
The engine number was correct the actual frame number was unmolested and it took a lot of letters and frame rubbings and an inspection before I got a revised V5. I was advised that a lot got screwed up when they went digital they even pulled the microfilm and that was wrong also. But they could only go back so far as all the original paper docs were long gone. The q plate threat was also used on the lines of let us do our job and I should just say ok. Took close to 6 months

MK Monty - that sounds like the problem I have - hopefully it's a standard threat and an inspection will sort it out

That's not filling me with hope Peach, the Vega I just bought doesn't have a log book either...I do believe the frame and engine numbers match though but can't confirm until I pick it up.

You should be OK as you are registering an import - my problem is that the numbers don't match the DVLA records ....... For whatever reason !!

Late Series 1's and early Series 3 LI 150's have the same numbering sequence which sometimes give me real headaches without seeing a pic' of the scooter itself.

Angry Bloke, I am surprised that DVLA are even considering letting you have the old Reg' number without any documentation and even then you have to go down the V765 route (re-claiming old reg' numbers) which Jain deals with. If you get no joy with DVLA then I suggest you get a Dating letter from myself and go down the first registration route and get an age related plate to avoid the dreaded Q plate.

It took me 6 months and loads of phone calls and two incorrect replacement V5s until I eventually got a 'sensible' on the line who sorted my problem.

My GP was manufactured 1971, first registered in 1978 in UK, the frame number on V5 I got with scoot in '97 was closer to the speedo reading than any Lammie frame number so all in all a real headache for a few months.

Half way through the process I was issued an age related plate then 3 months later I received a letter stating the reg number was no longer valid so I would have to have a Q plate, at this point I let rip over the phone when asked where I had got the number from................got the desired result though and my reg and V5 are now correct and match the frame and engine numbers.

Thanks Rich - that sounds like the best route :D

The form I used was a V62 and if the frame number I quoted matched the number in the record then they would issued a new V5 with the original reg number - the only problem is that 2 of my 6 frame number don't match :roll:

It's a UK bike with a registration plate but no log book, bought from Wickstead many years ago :?

Well I have the numbers now, it has a K plate and a frame number beginning 20/8*652 and an engine number beginning 75S*652 the final 3 numbers are about 390 apart. Reg. doesn't show up on the DVLA website :?

That, according to my records should be a 1968 Vega 75 on an F plate. Possibly sat in showroom for four years?

That did used to happen, a friend of mine bought an SX200 in 1971 that had stood in a showroom in Felixstowe since 1968 :shock: I guess that's what the GP did for sales of the older models.

Was the Luna range available in 1968 (F), I though 69/70 so H or J maybe :?

Still happens now.

My MotoGuzzi Griso was first registered May 2013 when I purchased it, but it's a 2010 model that was sat in showrooms for 3 years. There was a 2011 model stood beside it.

Yes the 50cc models started production in March '68 and the 75cc'c started in August '68,

I've just submitted my V62 with a £25 cheque, I hope I used the correct VIN numbers as there were insufficient boxes for all the numbers, I had to leave the 20/8 off :? I did put a photo of the whole number in the envelope though.

Sorry for the hi-jack Peach but it's all relevant ;)
