dry fit pics ???

long shot but does anybody have a good close up pic of a dry fit they have done of the front mudguard to the legshield right at the bottom ??? im just repairing mine as it was damaged on one side but i have dry fitted them and there is a gap of around 5-7 mm right at the bottom of the mudguard to the underside of the legshield , i can beat it into shape no problem as its what i do for a living(panelbeater) just want to check first on what other people think , sorry i dont have a pic

cheers for that Dimitrios_231 i just couldnt understand it as only one side had been damaged which i had mad a piece and welded in but the good side had a massive gap !!! even tho they are all the original panels (i didnt know how they fit before stripped down as i bought it in bits)

only photo ive got of mudguard on , not very good


this is what i had to do to leggies as some dodgy italian had properly bodged them


the edge was knackered so the part what didnt fall off was cut off


then made a new edge , not the easiest without a bender (only bodyshop ive ever worked in without one but not called for on these new cars i guess)
the leggies were still that stretched after spending ages shrinking the bottom i ended up making






so that done the front mudguard and hence my problem

Thank you , yeah the mudguard fits nice down the side it's just the last inch underneath where there is a big gap

Can't tell from your photo but it might fit better with the rubber mud guard gasket. Good bit of work on the legshield.

Hey Daniel.

I don’t possess your skills but when I built my last road going Lambretta from the mishmash of parts that I had acquired, I encountered the same problem but by then, all parts had been fully painted. Hindsight & all that, but the parts must have ‘moved’ during the blasting process so for dry builds to be of any value, they need to be done after any process likely to compromise the fit. You would no doubt be aware of that!

I reasoned that I could only try & fit the bottom of the mudguard first using huge penny washers & gradually try & pull the top end of the mudguard in toward the legshields.

Of course, it ended up as a compromise as the holes started to pull through on the inside of the legshields….

Anyway, undoubtedly you will get it all sorted but I’d ask that you please carry on showing us such fantastic work & detail in this Forum somewhere as it is so much more interesting than just seeing the finished article in ‘Show your ride’

thanks for your replies chaps , i enjoy fettling with things i guess its what makes me good at my job (i hope) ive rebuilt bikes before and restored a few cars over the years and even a couple of vans in all the bodyshops ive worked but ive never actually owned and restored anything of my own (apart from my bmx's) never mind a lambretta even tho ive worked on a few in the past for friends and such so its just something new to me hence me not knowing how things should fit seeing as it came to me in a box in pieces !!

anyways i think someone must have sat on these leggies when they took them off as the gaps are shocking !!! or its just me working to the tolerences of car gaps ha ha

so got a couple of pics today in my dinner
this is the side i made the piece for and welded in , had a little tickle with the hammer and now its not bad

this is the other side after a good 5 mins tapping about , still a bit to go i think


the next question is , how should the horncast dry fit because the gaps on mine especially at the top i could reach in and steal the wiring loom !!





are the 2 holes for the top screws of horncast supposed to be recessed in to allow it to pull closer or should they be flat to the panel ???

cheers for the kind comments chaps , jonnyxs yes getting a good metal finish is nice but it will still have a small skim here and there to finish but it wont be lathered in it , dimitros do you have a picture of the legshield top hole with the horncast not fitted so i can see how the hole is recessed so i can copy it ????? your pictures have helped alot , just very busy at work so only getting the odd 5 mins here and there

These pics are from remade legshields that I have never used,the idea is similar.
The picured legshields need to get cut half cm each side to perfectly fit on the frame,I might sell cheap in the future if anyone is interested.

so ... i managed to fettle a little something to put the recess in , a few washers and a nut and bolt later



test run on some scrap , bit softer then the old italian steel but good to try on



and then grind to fit inside the legshield




so thats the horncast sitting better , does that look about right dimitros ????
