Series 3 Light Switch.

Postby St George » Wed May 25, 2016 4:24 pm

Brand new light switches show them as having four wires. Red, blue, white and orange. Can anyone tell me which wire does what. May help with my future MOT one day soon I hope.

If your talking about the Sx,TV,Li special or GP type handlebar switch, the white goes to the horn, red and blue are dip and main beam and the orange is the main live feed for the headlight from the ignition switch.

That very much depends if the switch is wired / coloured as per the originals.

Normally they will connect into the bulb holder on a colour matched basis. So -

Orange from ignition to orange from light switch
Yellow goes to one side of the sidelight.
Green from ignition to green from the loom
Brown / black / purple / grey etc all match from loom to switch

Pink is often usually the earth

Thanks Ross. This is what happens when you try to do too many projects at once. Appreciate your reply.
