Most influential custom scooter ever?

It seems that re-doing classic 1980s custom scooters is all the rage at the moment, there's loads on the go including this one and another of Jeremy Howlett's. I'm not sure about the idea of owning other people's custom scooters, but Dizzy has done a lot of subtle updating to this to make it both a restoration, a tribute and his own work.

Not intending to cause any negativity, but am I the only one that wonders why someone builds a custom scooter encompassing their own ideas, designs and style, only to then sell it soon afterwards?

Then, on the flip side, why would you want to buy someone else's custom scooter? From what I remember, it looks as if Dizzy has altered the original mural's on Dazzle, but to me this scooter will always be one of Jeremy Howlett's head turning scooters that made a massive impression on my when I was a teenager first getting into scootering. I look forward to seeing this reincarnated scooter in the flesh.

Interested in hearing others thoughts, opinions or comments - whether they are in agreement or totally opposed?

I share your sentiment on buying someone else's "creation" but I suppose it just like buying a painting or a sculpture.

Not everyone is gifted with either the ability to create something themselves or visulaise it for an artisan to create for them.

As for any particular scooter being the most influential, murals, engraving and race team themed scooters don't float my boat - I like subtle.

Dazzle & Spiritwalker are totally awesome scooters.
But im not sure if its right that someone else should own something as unique and personal as a customised scoot.
Its like wearing someone elses underpants!

I understand about the undies but in fairness, this is a mix of sympathetic restoration and a very personal retake on a beloved favourite with many new details.

So it's like getting someone's old underpants, washing and repairing them and then getting a master-craftsman to embroider them for you so they are better than new. Underpant restoration will be all the vogue soon, you watch.

I'm no expert, but I suspect dealing with rust will be a damn sight easier than dealing with crustiness.

It's not hard to see why scooters have appealed to customisers, there's an awful lot of 'real estate' to get creative with. And whilst I can appreciate the creativity I wouldn't want to ride one... Yet these wee beasties are meant to be ridden.

As for race themes, well, it's the free advertising that I don't understand. That said, I'm eternally greatful to the racing fraternity for having helped develop parts that have breathed longevity into scootering.

What has really bothered me historically though, is the cutting/chopping etc. At least bolt-ons can be bolt-offed. As each year goes by it is realistic to assume that the Lambretta gene pool is diminishing, though I do live in hope that 3D printing might come to the rescue at some future juncture...
For a while now I've fancied a Series V Nuovo Originale 305.

What's more a concern I think is the engine gene pool judging by the amount of TV's of both flavours that you see advertised with GP cranks and kits etc....

Agree with the above, probably get bored with it very quickly..
On another note i sold for my brother in law a few years back a full blown custom done by John Spurgeon at great cost at the time. It was for sale for some time only to be bought by a guy who planned on stripping it to bare metal to do a JPS paint job on it..could never understand why he didnt just buy a standard version and saved a whole pile of cash..
