Selector shaft float

Postby dickie » Sat Jun 11, 2016 10:13 am

I suspect the float on my selector shaft is excessive at 2mm. Shown at the screwdriver tip here.

Is it a problem? When I added an extra shim above the fork it pushed the upper pawl so hard against the selector that the gearbox was binding up.

Thoughts?

Bend the wishbone up a little?

Did you try an shim below the circlip?

You shouldn't need an extra shim above the selector fork. Before you tightened the pinch bolt, did you make sure that you pushed the fork UP as far as it would go and at the same time pushed the selector fork rod DOWN.

Paul, yes I did push the fork and shaft in opposite directions and still got 2mm. I could barely make any difference though.

Ross, yes I've added an extra shim below the circlip and it's down to about 0.4mm so I'll live with that. I also bent the fork up but I was scared to push it too far.

Thanks gents

There no harm to bend the wishbone so the pawls sit right in the cursor dog, as long as they don't foul anything else.
