Is it possible that when you bent the tabs on the top plate that you warped it slightly and it is no longer flat?

Also have you checked that with the clutch out the centre spider spins completely free of the sprocket? If the sprocket (crownwheel) is the same length as the spider, or the shim is worn below, then the two can bind and this will drag no matter what clutch you fit.

will have a look next week dont have time to open it up this week i doubt and have a local rally sat at shipston
tried my new levers and they made no difference
its so frustrating because it only needs a small amount of extra movement on the arm to free off
will check what you suggest an fit new thimble and inner arm next week

would shortening the outer make any difference

I admire your honesty (in grassing the likely culprit up) ;)

Ah! I think I may have been the first, if not only, raw 17 year old (once I was…sigh) that attempted to fix his first puncture on his recently acquired £95 GP 200 by turning it upside down on his parents nice grass lawn…….

Well done! Result! :D

I’ve just re-read what the problem was, but whoever that ‘prat’ is that you refuse to name out of loyalty, that must be a ‘first’ in fitting the cam back to front/upside down

It’ s a good job we don’t all take ourselves too seriously & some of us can admit to cock-ups because if you climb that particular mountain, it’s a very humiliating tumble back down…..
