Desperately need good news

Postby EricG » Fri Aug 05, 2016 11:57 am

Hi all: I've been in LCGB for some years but new to the forum.
I've just started to restore my SX 200 and was gutted to find the rot at the bottom of the frame - thought it was all solid.

Can someone PLEASE tell me that this can be welded or is it the end???

Eric

That can be welded no problem. But IMHO a good strong repair to that would not be invisible.

If you weld a plate over the top, that'll be fine and strong.

It's hard to tell from a photo but on face value it can be repaired. Shaun Burns would be the man for that.

Thanks for that. I realise it's hard to tell from a photo but at least you've given me some hope.

Where is Shaun Burns based? I'm in north Leicestershire.

The most important thing for me is to be able to rebuild her. Thanks.

Shaun is in the north east,I'm sure someone will be able to give you his contact details. Welding a plate over the bottom is about as much use as filling the holes with plasticine. It needs cutting, sleeving and ring butts putting in then welding up on a jig.

Shaun is in Durham and is the man for the job. He has worked wonders for me.

He has an original frame jig from the eibar factory so you know it will come back straight and true.

I'll pm you his number

Shaun comes highly recommended, but since your frame is straight this is not a specialist job needing a jig. The question though is how much worse it is inside. Seen a few Lammy frames snapping recently so you have to make sure to cut all the rot out and replace with good metal or reinforce externally.

Got a welder I can recommend in Leicestershire if you PM
