Running in an RT195?

Postby swissdean » Fri Jun 17, 2016 2:02 pm

Really excited, delivery just arrived and it looks a work of art/high quality. Plans is to pull together over the coming weekend. What have others done re running in and or what advice would you have..how many miles at what throttle etc. Do i need to check head bolt torque etc after run in period, change oil etc...

Would really love to take it to Euro next weekend but thinking not wise..would be around 500 miles each way for me

Thanks

I took it really easy for 100 miles, 10-20 mile short hops
Torqued it up and got a little on the head
Then running it in gently as I would an Iron barrel

finally fitted it all today and rang MB and they said take it easy running in for about 500 kms and use good oil at 3%. Toom it ou for about 30ks... i am blown away by how strong it pulls and smooth it is, not a rattle at all..my set up: RT195 on 107/58 mec crank, 3mm packer at base and squish bang onm li150 s3 gearbox, 16 front sprocket, and JB top guide, delly 28 with MB panel filter (makes hell of a mess on floorboards, so may be changing that) and a V3 bgm big bore, and varitronic with BGM rear shock and BGM engine monts..super super smooth...only problem now I need to to suss out carb set up, starts easy, but bogs and splutters at between 1/4 and just over 1/2 throttle..any pointers where to start on changes..is it simply moving the clip on the needle?

If it's bogging and spluttering that suggests you ought to go smaller. It's too much fuel.

My RT195 is running almost exactly the same set up but my carb only a 24mm PWK, I did numerous faffing around the suggested settings but could never get it quite right. I ended up having it dyno'd at Paul Baker. Just as well because it was miles off, but too rich which is ultimately safe as yours sounds.
I really would recommend getting it set up professionally...its worth it.

If this is any help, the areas of throttle range where each of the carb settings takes effect, and how they all overlap.

Why did it need a 3mm base packer with a 58 x 107 crank? That should only be necessary with a 58 x 110 crank.
