Kickstart shaft

I've just bought a new series 3 kickstart shafts and when l went to fit it today and it's very tight to go through the side casing has anybody got any ideas how to get round this problem cheers

When you say stiff is it very or just a bit , sometimes the Bushes can be marked in the casing side or the new shaft can be rough causing this , maybe a bit of light emery to smooth off then try again , Lambretta parts eh
