Definitely should be rivets. You'll get them from Scotopia or Restos.

Definitely should be riveted,but I've got mine attached,both series 2 and series 3 with nuts and bolts.

Many years ago I riveted one on a DL I was restoring, and as the rivet popped, the riveting gun jumped and the sharp cut end of the rivet stem scratched freshly painted tool box door.

This is called learning lessons the hard way.

I secured mine using nuts and bolts and they keep coming undone! Also they look insecure as all you need is a small screwdriver and you can have access to my oil, an oily rag and my precious measuring jug....

I use nylock nuts and they never come lose.

For the OP, I think I used 3mm bolts and nuts. Should have used 3mm bolts and nylock nuts....

I used the button heads to look like rivets with nyloc nuts....

I also used 3mm button head bolts, but with 2 nuts and thread lock. no problems after months and it looks quite professional,if I say so m yself!

Did you use threadlock or nyloc nuts? I used nyloc nuts on mine and they haven't come loose after a few thousand miles.
