Need help with a tuning kit, how do you tune your scooter, which kit should I choose, and all general tuning and modifcations questions are for in here.

First, apologies if this should have been attached to a previous string but ........

..... planning my first long haul trip (400 miles each way, probably a sprint for some of you but I've only covered 120 in one go before!!) next year and had really set myself on the Casa 200, there seems to be that much quality coming out from Casa that I hadn't considered there may be issues with this kit.

Can anyone throw any light on the subject, should I be considering my alternatives before going ahead?

I've just bought one, it looks like a RB20 with the porting layouts, even has a bridged 'bat-wing' shaped exhaust port :o
the red annodised head has a centre squish & has a self centralising spigot
the piston has 1mm thk rings & is coated black :shock:
other comments on earlier threads state that the Nicasil came off in certain areas?? but to me the plating looks like one of my ceramic plated TS1 bores.... so? :roll:

I don't know anyone that has one of these kits, so I can't comment on the kit itself, but there are a lot of good small block kits out there these days that are tried and tested. GT186 (my preference), Mugello 186/200, Casa 185, RT, Imola, RB20.

If you want reliability then go for something that has proven reliability, something the SS kit is too new to have. Plus there will be a lot of people that can advise on setups, etc. that would suit your needs

Thanks for the replies, I would be interested in your views (HullyGully) of performance once you have the kit running. I am hoping to build an engine with a touring set up that will cruise around seventy but that may be ambitious for a small block :D With concerns over the ss200 and the speed I would like it may mean I start with new casings and go the TS1 route, although it may mean more money on fuel :shock: as reccomended by Burnside at least they have history and I can get advice on the set up.

Cruise around 70 :shock: I think that's asking a bit much for any small block and most large blocks tbh

I'm running a GT186 with 60/110 crank, PHBH30, Franspeed Race, Li150 16/46 gearing. That will happily cruise at 60-65 (which is a good touring speed imo) with enough left for over-taking, fastest I've taken it so far fully loaded with rally kit on GPS is 78.

But of course if you just have a standard Lambretta speedo then you can cruise at 70 on a standard 150 with ease :lol:

It may also be my definition of "cruise" thats a problem, after 14 years of a 175 kit I'm used to holding the throttle back until I think it may be about to seize - again :( may seriously have to learn the art of patience :D Re speedos mine either never works or bounces over about a 30mph difference so I reckon I've never known how fast I'm going - it was definately never over 60 though so to cruise anywhere more than that will be a novelty.

Fanx guys, this thread is making I gurt smile! My only experiences of cruising at 70 have been on the (Yamaha) Fazer or on the back of a recovery vehicle. Next years euro ped will be a Lambretta first... Now that's fighting talk... :lol:
