Saving Stickers

I've a couple of stickers on my GP that I don't want to lose as there no longer available.

Is there any way of saving them. Would a hairdryer and gently lifting it work?

I've taken stickers off using a hair drier but the stickers didn't survive, they tend to stretch and break.

You could try lifting one end and soaking in lighter fluid. Keep lifting it bit by bit while soaking in lighter fluid. Maybe practice on something less precious first?

Acetone might work but you could lose the ink on the sticker as well. You'd definitely lose the paint.

Alternatively, take a photo of them and get some more made.

First step is definitely take high definition digital photos which could be reproduced if all else fails.

I have managed to lift the metal foil stickers before with gentle heat from a hairdryer, but never really succeeded with thin vinyl. Sticky Stuff remover in my experience only really removes the remaining residue.

The glue on stickers tends to leach the plasticisers from the vinyl making them brittle.

You can keep them young by applying certain types of oil and leaving to soak in, but it takes years to rejuvenate them.

A bit like oil of olay. Except it works.

Plus i don't know which oils help.

Try heating the panel from behind , with a hair dryer or hot air gun , so heating the glue up before the actual sticker

if you take a quality digital photo a friend of mine can re-do the sticker he trades under the name of The cool graphic he's done some for me and they're spot on and uv stabilized

I'll get my daughter to bring up her hairdryer tomorrow. I can't find the one Andy Vass left behind. His curling tongs are still here though.

You can buy thick sticky back plastic, they use it to make graphics for MX bikes,


If you stick it over stickers, get it stuck down good then use a bit of heat to pull the lot off 9 times out of 10 the sticker will come away with the thick stuff...

Its so long since I've seen ya bilko the straightners and hairdryer are now surplus to requirements
