Carb insert

Anyone use any kind of sealer around the nylon carb insert on a dellorto? Is a good fitting manifold /carb insert and standard clamp good enough to prevent air leaks?
Opinions please..

Either I've always fitted dry or, @ most, with a light smear of grease & that's only to help with removal, not to seal!

In the 35 years I've been working on Lambretta's I never need to use any sort of sealant and don't know of anyone that has I did once have to replace the nylon sleeve on a TV200 I owned in the 80's but that was because it had been damaged by a previous owner so I would say no to sealant

unless the manifold spigot or the carb plastic insert is scored or dented or distorted there probably isn't any need but it wouldn't hurt to check around the carb to manifold junction when fitted using some propane or other accelerant .

The manifold to cylinder joint is another matter however. I always apply Threebond to manifold to engine joints even when using a gasket.
Its one joint that is almost impossible to check or inspect once the cowling is back on and you might never know if you had a tiny leak there.

If you are worried it wouldn't hurt anything to use some lithium grease or vasoline .

Thanks for all the replies. It was actually the manifold which wasnt tight causing erratic idling. Pita to do though (tv1) as the nuts are covered by the cowling. Everything was nos so no wear but did grease the nylon insert and cleaned the carb out as it hadnt run for a while, all ok now...

amazing how vibration can loosen fixings .I thought my Li150 was very rattley the other day and was amazed to find that 3x bolts on my rear floor panel had fallen off and the floor was only hanging on with one bolt and no nut !

Not wrong there...everything was torqued up and all the right washers ect used but vibration is the curse of the single cyl engine..
