A mate bought an LI150 gearbox off FB can anyone recognise or advise on the markings on the first gear cog ?

Indian, or possibly remade. Although, I have had an Indian LI gearbox and don't remember markings like that.

I have a series 2 Li 125 gearbox from 1960 and the edge of the teeth are no-where near as worn as that.It looks like they haven't been hardened properly. Is it a cheap unbranded Indian gearbox.

I don't think it's wear on the side of the teeth - it looks as if a chamfer has been machined on the side of the teeth for some strange reason - maybe to clean up some rough edges? I seem to remember that Italian cogs don't have such a large chamfer on the sides of the teeth, and there's nothing in the gearbox which would cause the teeth to wear in that way.

KOI marked on gear in photo... it's the only time I've seen KOI on anything, as per the link I posted.

Hi Toddy,

Can't give any first hand experience of the gear quality but most of the genuine Indian stuff, from various factories, is very good. It is only when you start dealing with the aftermarket stuff, from anywhere, that the standards frequently slip.

You too. Merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing you in 2017.

as with anything indian i would check carefully, make sure no chips on teeth or wear, check the hole in the centre is not too large, i put them on an old layshaft and make sure they are a reasonable fit, i threw a couple of gears away the other week they were way too slack on the layshaft, also fit the full stack on the layshaft and make sure they are higher than the end of the layshaft, i think you will already know this, af close ratio boxes use indian parts, ive got one in my rb and they will take some abuse so i would use, they just dont look very nice compared to italian gears or spanish.
