Whilst I've got my engine out, I was wondering why some carbs fit on the kick side? Is it for ease of fitment and is it as easy as just turning the manifold?
I expect a few eye brow raises, but I thought I'd ask, despite my lack of general.

As far as I know it is some reed valve kits are designed that way because of their port set up first done by Terry Shepherd on the ts1 also it wouldn't be for easy fitment as it involves cutting the battery tray off of lots of frames

All reed valve barrels exit on the kick start side. All piston ported kits have the carb on the LHS.
The exceptions are retro fitted reed valve conversions for piston ported kits (e.g. Rapido with LTH reed manifold), the GT kits with the small carb option, and the TS1 with the new LHS manifold.
When you look at the engine in the frame, it makes more sense for the carb to come out the RHS, as the barrel is offset.
