You need to empty fuel tank , disconnect fuel pipe and fuel tap linkage then remove fuel tap from tank by undoing nut the filter is inside tank connected to fuel tap if in doubt chuck it and get a new fast flow fuel tap and replace in reverse order maybe worth washing tank out at this stage as well before refitting tap

If you've had to rive the hell out of this sensitive component then the chances of it not being all chewed up are slim.
Buy a new atomizer and jet and minimise on possible issues down the line. It will be worth it.

I've drained the tank and removed the fuel tap. I see the filter sticking out the bottom - it's fairly stubborn and looks like it's possibly split or something. A couple of questions - should I force it out as I'm replacing anyway, and if I buy a new fast-flow tap, does this require a similar filter? Can one of you kind folk link me to something they'd recommend I replace it with? Thanks.

I'll stick my neck out and say they all or most have filters on .
I fitted a new F/F with the warning light on ,it came complete ready to fit .
One interesting thing was it had no reserve just on or off.

What's the advantage of the rear exit versions?

You shouldn't need a rear exit tap for your application. They are rear exit as they are a bulkier item than the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) taps & rear exit suits engines with the carburettor on the wrong side, which, incidentally, are usually greedier than standard.

You probably wouldn't need fast flow, but it's better to have that option, just in case.

I recently bought a Scootopia fast flow tap & can vouch for the fact that there is a filter with it, it is as compact as the OEM design & it is, indeed, fast flow....

Apologies that it's all going a bit o/t..

I ordered the FF tap from Scootopia. The old filter was a bugger to remove and now I'm finding the new one is equally difficult going in. Anyone else found this and got any advice?



It's a series 2 Li.

I found another FF tap with a thinner filter (none of those ridges on it) and it fits nicely. Tap all installed and working well and with a new slide spring fitted in my carb, she's now back up and running. Thanks to everyone for their advice. No doubt I'll be back soon for some more
