Switch trickery

Postby jonno » Sat Feb 18, 2017 4:52 pm

I have one of these for my sprinter

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-Style-Outboard-Safety-Cut-Out-Stop-Switch-with-Lanyard-/231952183001?hash=item36016d6ed9:g:vBAAAOSwOVpXYpM8
I cant seem to get it to cut out,it makes a circuit when the tab is pulled out.Im guessing this is to short it out like a Lambretta ignition switch? Has anyone got an idea about how to wire it up,would it be a double green on one terminal and an earth on the other? Thanks .

I’ve had a few kill switches in my time & they all earth out the ignition.

So they are ‘NO’ (Normally Open) just like a Lambretta ignition in the operating mode.

However, the switch you depict has four contacts so may well have another pole with ‘NC’ (Normally Closed)

If there is no wiring diagram or indications on the switch body, you’ll have to put a meter across the terminals to suss it out.

We’ve got an unused lanyard switch somewhere & if I find it, I’ll take a closer look. ;)

but don't you want it to make a circuit...? ie connecting the ignition wire to earth to stop the sparks...

Green ignition wire from the CDI on to one terminal, then a wire to earth on the opposite terminal these should then contact when the plug is pulled out.

Thanks Wack thought it might be but wasnt sure.
Byron on the one I have currently fitted I made a circuit of the green, from the stator to the switch, back to the CDI.This works fine,as pulling the plug breaks the circuit. The new switch fitted to GP headset is like a normal ignition .
