Mine did in the sense that I ‘steered’ him toward motorbikes of which he still owns. A Honda NC30.
However, his form of rebellion meant the first time he rode a Lambretta was in Group Four racing which he paid for & built himself. Within his first two seasons, he undoubtedly performed incredibly well, sufficient to catch the eye of a top, UK team.
Call me biased (if you want, but check the facts, first) but in the following season, any chance of capitalising on his natural ability eluded him due to the half hearted nature of his ‘semi-sponsored’ engine builder & sponsors that preferred to support older riders in their camp.
That’s one reason that you have to admire the Italians that have purposefully selected young, keen talent & have brought the game to us & wiped the floor with us.
