Advice. Putting a rear brake pedal back on

Postby Watfordwhite » Thu Mar 02, 2017 8:30 pm

S2 is there an easy way to get a rear brake pedal back on?
Bush in pedal first, or bust on spline ? The Spring seams to get in the way of the pedal going all the way back on the spline to allow the washer and circling to be replaced. Also the brake light switch pin does not touch the stop on the pedal.
All advice welcome :D

i always seen to have trouble getting the circlip on a lambretta rear brake pedal, so i drill them down the center and tap them to m5 and use a bolt and washer, i do the same on the rear arm and cam where it goes through the engine case, saves faffing around with clips

I make a loop out of a cable tie, and slip that over the hook on the end of the pedal spring. I pull the spring down and out of the way as I slip the pedal onto the pivot. Often the cable tie gets trapped there, and I have been known to leave them there.

Having said that, three hands make the job easier.

Thanks guys. I will try the cable ties first. Sounds like a cunning plan.

Its definitely a tricky one.
Pulling the spring down with cable ties helps. I found the only way I could get the pedal far enough on the stub was to squeeze the spring with some plumbers stilsons.

I'd double check that you've got a series 2 pedal as well. I found on mine I had a S3 pedal and the stub that's supposed to rest on the frame was the bit that was sitting on the switch.

Thanks mate, definitely an S2 pedal, it was the original one that came off (really easily) I think it's because it's not yet I the correct position. Last thing to do before the first MOT next Friday....
