Seat renovation question

Postby mickey c » Sat Mar 18, 2017 12:44 pm

There seam a few threads with folk looking to re do their seats, I'm doing one but can't find the j shaped bar that springs in & out of the locking plate (what the seat button moves).
I've tried lots of the shops webpages, eBay & google. I guess it doesnt help as I don't know what it is called, can anyone tell me please &\or who sells them?

I just searched "J bolt" on Ebay and came up with lots of similar items that I'm sure could be used.

Thanks fella
I wasn't thinking outside the box there! I'll go and measure one and get one ordered.
I am reassured you didn't know if one was remade. Maybe I've found the only scooter bit that's not been remade?

I dont think you can buy that part,I think the only way you'll get one is,if you get a used seat frame and use the one off that.Dont forget, you will need the split pin, washer and correct length spring.

Took a little longer than I hoped as I originally bought M7 which was a sloppy fit. Got this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361393790411
Which did need a bit of playing with - a small bend out of the curve at bottom of the J. I also had to slightly enlargen the guide holes to accept the thickness of the thread and extend the thread by 20mm. This was for an El Tigre seat so needed shortening by about 20mm.
I had a spring from a Xmas cracker in my 'that'll come in handy box' because I am soooo middle aged & dull! Seams to work well and adjusting by the nut stops the many Spring nips my fingers get when faffing about with the split pin adjusting set up.

I've not tried in the scooter yet. Before that is there any special technique or order to attach the seat cover tabs to the base please?
