MOT and tyres

Firstly hello to all
back to scooter scene after a long absence,
Just taken my 1968 LI 125 special for its MOT fresh from Italy,spent the night tossing and turning about headlight and KPH speedo and what shape it was in,only to find the MOT man said it was in fantastic condition, only a small crack in rear tyre
Chuffed to bits.My question is is a j rated tyre going to be man enough?

A j rated tyre can be used up to a maximum speed of 62mph/100kmh. i think that if my scooter could get near that speed I would be amazed and would consider fitting the next rated tyre for my own piece of mind. Just my opinion.

Speed rating isn't really the issue, it's the load rating you really need to worry about if you are going to be doing be doing lengthy dual carriageway riding.

I think you'd be hard pressed to actually find and fit an unsuitable new 350 x 10 tyre on a standard 125 these days. Back in 68 they were only one step up from wheelbarrow spec anyway.
It really is down to what is priority in your riding style

Better ask what kind of air do you put in the tyre now ?
Hope it's not mermaid breath lol

I expect your response is 'tongue in cheek' but you did ask and also said you'd been out of it for a lengthy period. A LOT has changed in scootering with many riders putting in serious mileage and at sustained relatively high speeds. There have been a LOT of reports of rear tyre blow outs and we now have more than one supplier of tubeless rims as well as an abundance of modern tyres. That said, FaF has a point in that a 125 Special in standard form isn't going to stress any tyre but stick a 186 top end on, load it up with camping gear and sit on the motorway for an hour at 50+ mph and you will need to be looking at the tyre spec
