Fitting New Chain......Help!

Just bought a new Iwis chain for my wife's GP and am trying to fit it, but it's really tight and I can't get the rear sprocket central to fit the clutch spider. It's only 1 or 2mm out but just enough to stop me being able to fit it. Any suggestions or tips would be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

What length chain & sprocket setup are you using here?

All standard GP200 gearbox with 18/47 and new Iwis 82 chain.

I' ve seen this with Iwis chains before. At the time I blamed the new aftermarket crownwheel and drive sprocket tolerances. In the end I just used a worn in chain.
Might be an idea to actually count the links on your new chain just to confirm it is what it says on the side of the box by laying it on top of your old one?

Please excuse what may be a stupid question, but presumably you can fit the chain & sprockets without any form of tensioner in place?

If so, then, as other's suggested, there is a problem with the sprockets being oversize, in which case the top tensioner (hopefully a strengthened one & no bottom tensioner, IMHO!) may just need slotting further to allow the set up to bed in for a few miles then recheck...

Doh!! That'll teach me to presume. After wresting for 2 to 3 hours with 3 different rear sprockets, chains etc I had the bright idea of counting the front sprocket which thought was 18 but low and behold it was a 19! Problem now solved and 18 tooth fitted, everything fits like a glove now. Thanks for the replies and sorry for wasting anyone's time, hopefully someone else might learn from this

We all make mistakes, assumptions & will always gain from each other's pool of knowledge.

Got the scooter up and running after fitting new clutch plates, spring, front sprocket and chain. I've noticed there's a bit of a rattle when the scooters running and it sound's like it's coming from the chaincase. I've fitted a nylon top slipper and lower chain guide and adjusted the chain to have about 6 to 7mm up and down slack in it. I've taken the casing off again and can't see anything that's been rubbing or loose? Just wondered if anyone has any ideas, I've tweaked the lower chainn guide so it doesn't look like the chain touches it any point but just wanted to ask opinions before putting it all back together again?

While its running pull the clutch lever in and put it in gear,this stops the cluster and loose gears from turning.See if this makes a difference.Its quite normal for there to be some noise from that area.

Cheers for that, will give it a go. Did try pulling the clutch in but didn't make any difference but didn't listen when i engaged it into gear. Will try that next.
