BGM LT Coil

Postby Feersum Injun » Sat Apr 01, 2017 8:54 pm

Don't suppose anyone has come across this before... I'm changing the coil on my stator, I've done this before using SIL type without any problems. This time I chose to get a BGM type for no other reason than it comes with the copper (heat sink?) plates. When I measure the old coil slot (that slides onto the block) it is 13mm (as is the block). The BGM coil measures 11mm?! is this common?? Do you just take a small file to it to squeeze it on before tapping it down with a small hammer??

Thanks

Yes, this is 100% normal as the BGM one is the same as the Ducati size... the larger Indian size is the odd one out. You cannot modify the LT coil to fit your stator, rather, you need to modify the stator to suit your LT coil, which is done by carefully cutting off laminates from where the LT coil fits to reduce it to the correct thickness. This is a very common conversion that needs to be done when upgrading any Indian electronic stator to use a BGM LT coil, Ducati Vespa LT coil or a Vespa coil taken off a donor Vespa stator.

You should be able to find info on doing this already on-line, however, I'll send you some photos that I took recently when carrying out this conversion for a pal. If you give me an email address then I'll send them over to you and you can choose to post them on here (or not) as I can't be bothered to upload images to a webhost, etc. (too lazy!).

Cheers Adam... that makes sense. Just read the small print and it says 'some modification may be required'! I was concerned that there was no meat on the plastic sleeve to start removing this! I'll PM you...
