Side case gasket face

Howdy chaps just building an engine for the gp curry burner and I've had to weld a couple of stud holes and tap them out , this was easy enough but I need the gasket face on engine case and side case "skimming" as such , just took it down to local engine place and they hummed and arrggghhed quoting me more than £100 as they were going to struggle clamping them down , any ideas of were I could get it done /anyone had it done ? And before it's said the side case is a little too warped to go down the wet n dry on met route

I'm in Sheffield but work in Doncaster so time is a limit on getting to places when they are open due to working hours

I had a slightly warped one. Ktf scooters sell thick cork gaskets. Sorted mine out.

You'd obviously have to remove any high spots with a file and some wet and dry but that's easy enough.

Glasgow Lambretta sell cork gaskets in lots of thicknesses. Could be worth trying one of these.

Yes, 1.5mm thick Chaincase Cork gaskets now available through the LCGB Club Shop, £5 each. The manufacture states they are re-useable at least 5 times.

Cheers chaps I've managed to reduce most of the warping so will just get a cork gasket

Old post here but worth bringing up again for feedback.

I used a cork gasket on my GP200 fairly recently, I had replaced a stripped exhaust bracket crankcase stud with a repair stud and thought it might prove to be good practice. I found that the gasket creeps too much and and the nuts need tightening after a fairly short run, I'm a bit wary of overtightening to compensate in case I strip more studs.

I can understand that they might be used to help with uneven gasket faces but I reckon I'll return to using fibre gaskets and Hylomar which was my preferred method.

Just wondering now how anyone else had got on with using Cork Gaskets.

You will get "Creep and leak" problems with cork. Cork is fine for lightweight applications such as a rocker cover gasket which only needs light torque fasteners. Lammy chaincase covers form a structural part of the engine's construction, so the gasket needs to take the compression of the fasteners. A cork gasket here is not a good idea.

I had a slight weep on my Li150. I just put another gasket on, so you have two on now, and torque up properly. No weeps, and no messy gasket paste, simple!!!
