IGM Numbers

Postby Danbretta » Sun Apr 30, 2017 10:15 am

Hi All, Does anyone know what year IGM numbers were introduced in Italy. I know series 2 frames had them but mine is a very early 1959 one. There is no IGM number but I'm sure it's all original and authentic. Maybe they were introduced in 1960?
Anyone out there have an early series 2 without this IGM number?
Thanks
Dan.

Hi Dan I have a 1960 series 2 Li 150 and that doesn't have an IGM number stamped on the frame

I also have a S2 LI 125 with no IGM numbers first registered May 1960.

I believe that the factory started using them around this time.

My 58 frame breather doesn't but my 61 S2 does.
According to the Lambretta archives S1 do not have the stamp but S2 should have. So 1959/60 onwards.

Thank all for your feedback, would be interesting to find the earliest frame numbers that have the IGM numbers. I can't find any records online. Maybe they exist somewhere. I think my frame was 813 ***

Mine starts '706' which would mean it was built in 1959 according to the BLA list extract below.

Pete Davies mentions in the Lambretta Bible that not all Series two's had them.

Li 125 (Series 2)
Frame prefix: 125 Li
1959: 703,001 - 712,839
1960: 712,840 - 772,060
1961: 772,061 - 799,999
1961: 300,001 - 311,110

As posted earlier it was first registered in May 1960 and still has its original registration number indicating it was registered in Gloucestershire.

It must have spent a few weeks either sat in a showroom or waiting somewhere to shipped to one.

Yes it was probably stuck in a showroom or warehouse through the winter months, I doubt many were sold over here until the weather was more enjoyable.
