Spanish frame and engine numbers

Postby Geocamper » Sun Apr 30, 2017 4:45 pm

Is it set in stone that Spanish series 2 Eibar lambretta's had matching engine and frame numbers?

I find it strange that on mine the frame and engine are different numbers even though they both say li150. There must have been a change of engine in its previous life.

I wouldn't go as far to say that matching numbers are "set in stone" for Eibar machines albeit it is the norm. As a company they had a pretty turbulent history.

Nothing strange about it really - it could have been changed - far easier to swap out a dead engine with one that's working than fault find and repair the original.

Just gone through the original registration paperwork and it shows on June 23 1961 the frame number and engine number didn't match. They are 108 digits out from one and other. I had the information in front of me but I couldn't see it until now when I looked into it in detail. So the answer is, Not all Spanish series 2's were matching numbers. Cheers Guys.

I'd have to agree with the fact it's not set in stone. A few years ago I had a 1972 Jet 200 with the original
logbook and bill of sale and the frame and engine numbers were over 200 numbers out. I've had other
Jet 200s since and 3 have had matching numbers but one 1973 model was again around 200 numbers out.
The 1976,1979 and 1980 models all had matching numbers so the jury's still out for me.

I'd been told by a former factory worker that they had to match for there version off the DVLA. But what you have said proves him and me wrong. You live and learn!

I had a 1960 Eibar S2 150 and the frame and engine numbers were only 4 digits apart. Apparently more common on the very early models according to Jaime ( Supereibar ). My 1962 S2 125 which I got from Barcelona has matching engine and frame numbers

The early S2's often Didn't have matching numbers but later production machines did
I have a 1960 with non matching
It's only with a large database, such that Buzz or Perry have access too, that you can say for certain exactly when the matching number machines left the factory.
