Common misunderstanding, the stators are not converted so that they produce AC, they will still output an AC current. The 'mod, is to disconnect one end of the lighting coils from earth and connect to a new additional yellow. The 2 yellows carry the AC to the Wassel unit which is where it gets converted to DC.
