damper brackets

Postby stephena » Thu Jul 06, 2017 8:40 am

Morning All. Is it necessary to to remove top hats from inside the forks before welding on the damper brackets. The lower aftermarket bolt on bracket for the damper are some better than others if so which one to go for. Thanks.

The basic answer is yes or you could melt/distort anything inside the forks. If you are doing this then you might as well replace the links with ones designed to fit dampers.
You could fit after market top brackets instead if you wish. I had Casa ones fitted to my scoot and they worked okay but then decided to fit welded brackets and new links. looks much better and no chance of the top brackets moving.

I bought a couple of sets of lower link conversion damper brackets before deciding to change my fork drum links for Tino Sacchi remade ones. The conversion brackets are ok, but I'm a fussy sod and found them to be unevenly spaced to each other when fitted which was a pain when welding top damper link brackets to align up evenly. I think all the lower fork link conversion brackets are all the same quality, cheap and cheerful !
